Thousands of years ago, in the ancient lands of Troas and Mysia, at the foothills of the Kaz Mountains, a small fruit began to grow. This ancient fruit, which we call the olive today, was not just a food back then; it was the symbol of abundance, wisdom, peace, and long life. The lands of Çanakkale and Balıkesir were one of the important olive routes of the ancient world. Ships departing from Troy and merchants setting sail from the port of Antandros (Altınoluk) carried this precious fruit grown at the foothills of the Kaz Mountains (Mount Ida) to different geographies of the Mediterranean. The traces of this ancient legacy still live on in the ancient stone presses of Assos, in the millennia-old olive groves of the Gulf of Edremit, and in the olive workshops that have survived from the past to the present.
